James Murray

Knowledge & Experience

James Murray started working in the industry over 27 years ago. Whilst Director and Head of Sotheby's European Valuations Department, James advised a selection of the world's most important collectors, refining a fundamental appreciation of quality, value and unparalleled client service.

A deep understanding of the art world and the people within it was founded during his formative years working with the major London sculpture gallery and dealer Robert Bowman.

Since 2011, James Murray has successfully operated as an independent adviser at the highest level through an investment of time, resources and an intuitive awareness of the risks of transacting in an unregulated market.

An unwavering commitment to discretion and transparency combined with understanding the joy and pleasure that art provides ensures our clients receive a unique and highly personalised service.

Highlights to date include sourcing several major Impressionist paintings for the collection of the Barberini Museum, Potsdam, Berlin and a significant masterpiece by Cecily Brown to a private collector currently on long term loan to the Najionalmuseet, Oslo.
